A 20-count superseding indictment was filed yesterday in federal court in Brooklyn charging Chad Barclay with interstate prostitution, Hobbs Act robbery, kidnapping, access device fraud, aggravated identity theft, witness tampering, and obstruction of an official proceeding. \u00a0Those crimes involve five female victims.\u00a0 In addition, one male was the victim of access device fraud and aggravated identify theft.\u00a0 Barclay was arrested in May 2023 and ordered detained pending trial.\u00a0 Barclay will be arraigned on the superseding indictment at a later date.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs alleged, the defendant is a dangerous criminal who sexually assaulted and robbed multiple vulnerable women while using fear to make them his prisoners,\u201d stated United States Attorney Peace.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI commend the prosecutors and FBI Special Agents for bringing this serial offender to justice.\u00a0 Anyone who believes they are a victim of a crime committed by Barclay is asked to contact the United States Attorney\u2019s Office at https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/report-crime or the FBI.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

As alleged in court filings, from September 2022 to May 2023, Barclay engaged in a criminal pattern of enticing women, some of whom were contacted through online escort websites, to meet with him, and then sexually assaulting and\/or robbing them.\u00a0 After luring them to his apartment in Brooklyn, Barclay sexually assaulted multiple female victims, instilling fear and confining them for hours in his apartment.\u00a0 Barclay also compelled the victims to unlock their phones so he could take control of the phones and transfer thousands of dollars to himself through various financial platforms.\u00a0 On several occasions, Barclay stole the victims\u2019 bank cards and used them to make unauthorized ATM withdrawals. \u00a0In some cases, Barclay asked his victims personal questions in an attempt to identify whether they had friends and family in New York or lived alone, and accessed their phones to gather personal information about them\u2014including where they lived and whether they had children\u2014to further coerce them into complying with his demands.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
