\n\tThe 76th annual Tony Awards were handed out Sunday night.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimberly Akimbo <\/em>won best musical, Leopoldstadt<\/em> was named best play, Suzan-Lori Parks\u2019 Topdog\/Underdog <\/em>won best revival of a play, and Parade<\/em> won best revival of a musical.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the lead acting categories, Jodie Comer won best performance by an actress in a play for Prima Facie,<\/em> while openly nonbinary actor J. Harrison Ghee made history (along with Alex Newell) for winning best performance by an actor in a musical for Some Like It Hot.<\/em> Sean Hayes won best actor in a play for Good Night, Oscar, <\/em>while Victoria Clark won best actress in a musical for Kimberly Akimbo.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n\tOscar winner and Tony nominee Ariana DeBose returned to host the ceremony, which this year moved to the new location of the United Palace in New York City\u2019s Washington Heights. See the red carpet arrivals here.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show was split into two parts, with the preshow, The Tony Awards: Act One, airing live on Paramount Global\u2019s FAST platform, Pluto TV. The main ceremony aired on CBS and also streamed live and on-demand on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis year\u2019s ceremony took place amid the ongoing writers strike after organizers struck a deal with the WGA to proceed without a script as a concession to the guild, which promised not to picket the event. The main show opened with a nod to the strike, as DeBose opened a binder labeled \u201c76th Annual Tony Awards Script\u201d in which all the pages were blank. DeBose also addressed the strike in the unscripted monologue, noting that the teleprompters were blank and would remain so apart from flagging when the winners should wrap up their speeches.<\/p>\n
