In commemoration of ‘Pink Constitution Day’ in India, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh N Singh, made a brilliant declaration about the potential of the progress of the world. “There will be more peace if women lead the world,” Singh said.
The focus of this event was the recent passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, in September 2023, a landmark decision in the Indian legislative landscape. This historic legislation, considered in the country’s new Parliament building, received almost unanimous support, with only two dissenting votes. The bill mandates that women must hold a minimum of 33% of seats in state legislative assemblies and the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament.
Singh eloquently recounted the invaluable contributions of women throughout history, spanning from ancient times to the post-independence era. His words resonated with the significance of acknowledging and celebrating the role of women in shaping the nation.
The statement made by Singh stands as a testament to his commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women in the political sphere.
