Woman spends a year building a bunker beneath her home by herself, just for fun

A woman named Kala is currently digging a tunnel under her suburban home by herself, and is sharing the process on Tik Tok. Kala, 37, sn’t a licensed engineer but studied business and finance. She’s embarked on this DIY tunnel project, learning as she goes.

Over the past year, she dedicated her free time to the project, excavating beneath her basement more than 30 feet down by herself. She has spent more than $50,000 on the project to date.

From preserving the foundation to setting up electricity, Kala’s journey involves mastering various skills as she transforms her vision into reality. She has learned how to reinforce the walls with concrete, added plumbing and hauls out rocks on her own.

Her goal is to create a storm shelter, inspired by FEMA manuals on safe rooms. While the project serves a practical purpose, Kala sees it as a personal challenge rather than a doomsday bunker.
