Another Prime Day? Already? Basically, yes.

Amazon’s “BIG DEALS” Prime Day is set for October 10 at 3 a.m. EDT through October 11. Whatever you do, keep the coffee pot on because you’re going to be tuning into the sale a lot.

Amazon says that new deals will drop as frequently as every five minutes during certain periods throughout the event across a wide selection of products. Prime members will also find deals based on past purchases, browsing history, and items saved to their Lists with personalized recommendations from Amazon.

The company is sort of straddling the fence a bit, but most definitely for the good of the consumer. The sale will almost certainly feature Black Friday-level discounts, with deals on fashion, toys, Amazon-owned devices, and seasonal specials from big brands like Barbie, Dyson, SharkNinja, and iRobot.

Getting ahead and staying ahead

Effective immediately, Prime members can sign up for invite-only doorbuster-like deals on select products that are expected to sell out completely. Invite-only deals include 60% off Blink smart home security, 50% off Sony Dolby Atmos/DTS:X Soundbar-HTX8500 2.1ch, 46% off Philips 3000 Series Air Fryer, and 55% off Jabra Elite 7 Active True Wireless Earbuds.

To request an invite, ConsumerAffairs found these suggested steps:

Find an “Invite-Only Prime Deal” that you want to purchase during Prime Day. You can find the deals on the Deals page.
Navigate to the product detail page.
Select “Request invite”. If you are not a Prime member, sign up for Prime to be able to request an invite.
You will receive an email notification confirming you requested an invite. The confirmation will be sent to the email that is on your Amazon account. If you don’t have an email on your account, add one by navigating to ‘Your Account’ and ‘Login and Security’.

“If selected, you will be notified during Prime Big Deal Days with instructions on how to purchase the item,” Amazon said.

“Purchases must be completed prior to the end of Prime Big Deal Days. Prime members who are not selected will also be notified via email by October 11.”

Two more tricks to try

Another stay-ahead trick Amazon revealed is to sign up to get deal-alert notifications related to things you’ve searched for or viewed recently on Amazon.

The best way to do that is to visit the Prime Big Deal Days event page on the Amazon Shopping app between now and October 10 to create deal alerts. Then, when Prime Big Deal Days arrive, you’ll be pinged on any available deals you’ve subscribed to.

And finally, let Alexa earn its keep by setting up deal notifications in the Alexa app. That way, Alexa will keep you in the loop up to 24 hours in advance on eligible items saved to a Wish List, Cart, or Save for Later.

Then, ask Alexa to remind you of a specific deal when it goes live, or ask Alexa to make the purchase when the deal is available by saying, “Alexa, buy it for me.”

One sale ninja says to wait on some of the stuff Amazon will be offering

In an email conversation with BlackFriday.com‘s shopping expert, Mackenzie Shand, she told ConsumerAffairs it’s important that shoppers know what to buy and not buy.

“Although shoppers will likely see a lot of tempting deals, we recommend waiting to purchase certain items during Black Friday. We expect to see great deals surrounding toys, any holiday must-haves, Amazon-owned devices and more,” she said.

“Shoppers should wait to purchase TVs, laptops and computers until Black Friday sales.”
