According to Indeed, employers in various industries are rethinking the importance of a college degree as a prerequisite for well-paying jobs and financial stability. This shift is evident on job search platforms like Indeed and ZipRecruiter, which showcase a growing trend towards prioritizing skills in the hiring process.
Parisa Fatehi-Weeks, senior director of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) at Indeed, said employers are recognizing the effectiveness of identifying the right talent by focusing on the specific skills and competencies required for a job, rather than being restricted by rigid degree requirements.
A recent survey reveals that 45% of employers have abandoned degree requirements for certain positions within the past year. Moreover, ZipRecruiter’s findings indicate that 72% of companies now prioritize a candidate’s skills and experience over their academic credentials.
