Gypsy Rose Blanchard was a victim of child abuse who manipulated her boyfriend Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn into murdering her mother Dee Dee Blanchard and is now one of the most famous celebrities on the planet. Gypsy Rose gained more than 9 million followers on Tik Tok alone, less than a week after she was released from an 8 year prison sentence for her connection to her mother’s killing.
Before she was released, netizens around the world were counting down the days to her release, creating videos to welcome her home and generally fan girling over this woman who has contributed nothing to our society but another true crime story for podcasts.
Why are we rewarding Gypsy Rose with fame and celebrity for being a murderer?
Women report feeling sorry for Gypsy Rose because of her childhood abuse at the hands of her mother which may be the reason why she is viewed by many women as an underdog who is now coming out on top. But what about the other women who killed their abusers, are sentenced to serve long term prison sentences, and are treated as criminals? What makes Gypsy so special that she gets a press tour instead of a shame walk?
Gypsy Rose was trained by her mother in the fine art of lying, manipulating and eliciting sympathy for attention and personal gain. Disguised under the guise of being an advocate for abuse, she is doing the same thing all over again. Feel sorry for me and love me must be her creed. If we don’t feel sorry for her then why would we love her?
Gypsy Rose manipulated a man into killing her mother and he has been given a life sentence without the possibility of parole. He has lost his freedom forever yet she was quoted as saying that she simply wishes him well.
While I feel that I should have sympathy for Gypsy Rose because of all that she has endured in life, I simply do not. I do not like seeing her face doing Tik Toks trends and outfit of the day videos. I do not wish to hear Gypsy Rose’s tired ass victim story in detail again and again. I do not wish to follow her journey through stardom. With all of the women who use their intellect and sweat to create solutions for problems in our society with very little support, why are we rewarding this criminal with book deals and fame?
Gypsy Rose’s infamy teaches warped minds that the only way to achieve ultimate success in our society is to hurt someone and every media outlet will come running to you. That mentality is often the motivation behind other fame seeking murderers and seriel killers. Gypsy Rose needs to learn a skill just like the rest of us out here hustling for our lives. As a society we have to stop rewarding misbehavior with fame or we will create another slew of young girls who look at Gypsy Rose and think that her path is the easy way to go.
Gypsy Rose is a weirdo, she does not deserve to be followed and admired and she is never invited sit at my table for lunch.
