A little-known café in rural Georgia, has no patience for rowdy children and went viral this week for charging an extra fee for bad parenting. A menu leaked on Reddit earlier this week shows the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, which is found in the north Georgia Mountains has been charging unsuspecting parents an extra fee if their children are annoying. The charge for “bad parenting” is indicated on the menu as “Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent.”
Sadly for customers, the restaurant does not share information on what they perceive to be “bad parenting.” In addition, there is no indication of exactly what the cost will be for being an unconcerned mom or dad. But, it’s apparent from a Google review that the cost could be as high as $50. Ironically, a quick peek at the restaurant’s menu reveals that the $50 fee is significantly more expensive than any of the food that is offered there.
The disclaimer is stated explicitly on the restaurant’s bill of the menu, which features dishes like house-made crab cakes topped with remoulade mayonnaise and a 39 bucks ribeye steak covered with herb butter.
Online reviews indicate that the eatery has been “offering this service” for some time, but its recent resurfacing has triggered a contentious debate.
“What does it mean to be an “adult who can’t parent’? No grounds to charge extra if that were to happen,” a Redditor who sounded a lot like a stressed-out parent insisted. “Just say no kids. Kids can be annoying, but they’re unpredictable because they’re KIDS,” another Redditor stated.
A handful of disgruntled customers have submitted negative Google reviews for the restaurant, alleging that they were unhappy recipients of the “bad parenting” fee. A few days ago, Kyle Landmann claimed. “The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behavior. My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill.
