A woman went on a bizarre stabbing spree on Wednesday, injuring three people, including an Atlanta police lieutenant, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The police received alerts around 4:45 p.m. to an armed woman standing outside the security checkpoint near the airport’s south terminal. The woman, Damaris Milton, 44, was reportedly waving the blade at approaching officers as travelers stood within feet of her.
Milton’s alleged violent attack began when she stabbed her taxi driver upon arriving at the airport. The police tried to keep her in one area to limit her movement but were unsuccessful.
“During the encounter, the female suspect stabbed an adult female and then an APD lieutenant as he attempted to take her into custody,” according to a preliminary police Incident report shared by WRDW.
An officer used a stun gun to try to subdue Milton but it did not make contact. Milton then stabbed an airport clerk as police attempted to surround her. Another officer used pepper spray to try to stop the woman’s attacks, but he slipped on the spray on the ground and the woman bent down to stab him in the leg.
All three victims are in stable condition. Milton was arrested and taken into custody following the stabbings.
According to Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee, “charges are going to be filed at some point,” as police are still piecing together what caused Milton to lash out.

After the incident at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the authorities are investigating the possible motives behind Damaris Milton’s alleged actions. Some possible factors that could have led to the incident are:
- Mental health issues: It is possible that Milton was suffering from a mental health condition that caused her to act in a violent manner. Mental health conditions can cause people to display erratic behavior and poor judgment.
- Personal problems: Milton could have been dealing with personal issues such as financial problems, relationship issues, or other stressors that caused her to act out.
- Substance abuse: It is possible that Milton was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident. Substance abuse can impair judgment and lead to violent behavior.
- Terrorism: Although there is no evidence to suggest that this was a terrorist attack, authorities are investigating all possibilities. The fact that Milton attacked people at an airport raises concerns about the potential for terrorist activity.
Regardless of the motive, the incident highlights the importance of airport security measures and the need for law enforcement to be equipped to handle potentially dangerous situations. The fact that all three victims are in stable condition and suffered non-life-threatening injuries is a testament to the quick response of the authorities and the effectiveness of their training. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
