Lyft has introduced a feature that matches female drivers with female passengers on its ride-hailing app, in an effort to improve safety and encourage more women to drive with the company. The feature, Women+ Connect, will allow women and nonbinary riders and drivers to make being connecting with each other for trips a priority by toggling on a setting in the app. They could still be matched with men when no women or nonbinary people were available nearby. A 34-year-old woman in New Orleans has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after attempting to hire a hitman to eliminate a romantic rival. Zandra Ellis was sentenced by a judge for transmitting threatening communications in interstate commerce. A fake website connected to the FBI offered evidence of Ellis’s crime. Helen Obiri, a Kenyan long-distance runner, has emerged victorious in the women’s division of the New York Marathon, which saw over 50,000 participants. A 20-year-old crew member was charged with sexual assault for attacking a female passenger on a Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffett-themed cruise. Hoobesh Kumar Dookhy, a cruise bartender, served the women alcohol and kept the room key they had used to pay for their drinks. He then entered their cabin while they were asleep and sexually assaulted one of the women. A 20-year-old Iowa woman who falsely claimed to have pancreatic cancer, leukemia, and a football-sized tumor wrapped around her spine, with documented “battles” on social media, has avoided jail time. Madison Russo never had any of the illnesses she claimed to have on her TikTok, GoFundMe, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts, and about 400 people still sent her donations. Ina Thea Kenoyer, a 47-year-old woman from Minot, North Dakota, was charged with class AA felony murder for the death of her boyfriend, Steven Edward Riley Jr. who was set to dump her after inheriting $30 million. Riley died on September 5th in Bismarck after being transferred from a local hospital in Minot. The autopsy revealed that his cause of death was poisoning by anti-freeze, according to The Guardian.
